2 Men,1 Royal Enfield And A Determination To Explore 30,000 Kms Around India!

What happens when 2 men dream of exploring a nation on a shoe string budget? They end up going on a journey of a lifetime ofcourse!
Left To Right: Bhishma and Deepak
Meet Deepak Chauhan and Bhishma Choudhary, 2 passionate travellers who ended up travelling 30,000 kilometres across India in 300 days on their faithful Royal Enfield Bullet. Deepak decided to share the story of their journey on his blog and it is the best thing a traveller can ever read!
Up until now, Deepak was working as a software testing engineer for an MNC whereas Bhishma quit his job for travelling. In December 2014, Bhishma called up Deepak to ask whether he was interested in going on a roadtrip across south India on his Royal Enfield Bullet. Deepak was more interested in a Pan India trip but Bhishma was willing to undertake a journey only across south India.
Destiny had other plans in mind and when the guys started on their roadtrip on 27th December, little did they know that they would end up covering the entire nation on their bike! They started their journey fromMumbai to Goa and then rode onwards...
The interesting part about their journey is that throughout their trip, they rode only from 5a.m./6 a.m. to 11 a.m. After that, Deepak would start working on his office projects till 5 p.m.! He says that on the trip, temples, highways, gardens, mountain tops, beaches and cafes doubled up as an office space for him. Being a bibliophile, Bhishma had a lot to keep him occupied during this time.
They restricted their budget per day to 1000 rupees. This amount included petrol, lodging and food. After covering 8,300 kilometres across south India, the boys were back in Mumbai.
But this time, they were determined to cover the length and breadth of India. A quick rest of a few days later they started moving towards the west and the rest, as they say, is history.
Deepak puts across his passion for riding and adventure in the form of a poem:
''I am a wanderer searching for my soul
Roaring on highways with my bullet all alone
Never knew my destination, Don’t know my location
Lost on highways to explore the unexplored civilization
Photographs are my worship, Music is my religion
I don’t pray to god , I just believe in being human
Talk to the clouds , Follow the birds
I wish they guide me to a places I can call homes
Moon is my friend who comes at night
He tells me story about the stars in sky
I sleep before I could count all stars
Dream about the next destination which is miles far
I am a wanderer searching for my soul
Roaring on highways with my motorcycle all alone.
Having exhausted their savings, but still having the passion to explore, the guys are now in search of sponsors. If you are interested in helping them out, do contact Deepak on dkchauhan2k7@gmail.com.

 PC: jatayunaturepark
Let us begin with an introduction to Jatayu: In the Indian epic Ramayana, Jatayu is the youngest son of Aruna. What makes this mythical creature important to Ramayana is that Jatayu tries to rescue Sita from Ravana when he is on his way to Lanka after kidnapping Sita. Jatayu also stands for bravery and dedication as he fought valiantly with Ravana, but as Jatayu was very old Ravana succeeds to kill him in the end. As Rama and Lakshamana chanced upon the stricken and dying Jatayu in their search for Sita, he informs them of the fight between him and Ravana and tells them that he had gone south.

Age is Just a Number for This 53-year-old Woman whose World Record Ride Would Inspire Many

PC: backnbeyond
Some of our adventures at times are the storytellers of our self. A self that might have faced a thousand of hurdles and societal pressures to realize those dreams at last, that ultimately become a personal statement. Meet Moksha Jetley, the 53 year old woman from Hoshiarpur, whose story might just inspire thousands of those women who live under some kind of overwhelming patriarchal surveillance every day.
 PC: indiatoday
There might be many people in India who would have travelled from Kanyakumari to Ladakh on their bikes. Every year, the roads that connect Kanyakumari to Leh get filled up with bikers whose ambition is to cover the vast terrain of India on their two wheels. However, the same journey is quite different for this woman. What makes her ambition to cross the terrain different from others is her personal story. Moksha Jetley was married young and soon found that she had one more soul to nurture within her womb. The things got worse as she became the victim of domestic violence over the demand for a male child.
PC: backnbeyond
Her desire to not submit before the congealed forms of patriarchy became one of her weapons to leave her marriage and take care of her child in the best way possible. In her own words, "That time in Chandigarh taught me that a woman trying to earn her living all by herself was a concept men didn't have the easiest time wrapping their heads around. Not that I had any regrets.”
PC: girlsthatroam
After years of dedicated motherhood, she decided to take on to her passion of riding on a bike at an age when most of the women in India just think of handing over their responsibilities. Her personal battle against her own husband and in laws became a battle on road to overpower any obstacle that would belittle personal dignity and strength. "It was just amazing to see so much subconscious retaliation-that surfaced in the form of reprimand, casual comments that were supposed to belittle me and disbelief-by the men (and some women) around me."
PC: limeroad
Having completed the Leh-Manali strip in 20 hours and 20 minutes, she became the proud owner of Limca book of records, which is a matter of dream for many men bikers in India. "In fact, Limca Book of Records stands proof of the fact that I am the first woman biker to have completed the Leh-Manali strip in 20 hours and 20 minutes."

PC: indiatoday
Her journey across Himalayas might just inspire those women in India who just wish to come out of the clutches of patriarchy. Her story encourages many women to leave the idea of always relying on a man for her sustenance and realization of her dreams. Infact, her perusal of her passion is a reminiscent of the fact that most of the passions might just come true as you come out of the strong societal pressures. "It's been seven years since I've been organising biking tours for foreign tourists who share my love for adventure. Though we tour the Himalayas mostly, I've done expeditions from Kanyakumari to Leh-with my loyal friend, the Royal Enfield 350."
PC: backnbeyond
PC: backnbeyond
Through her ride across India, Jetley cultivates that strong desire in us to follow our dreams and to travel alone, without that patriarchal network to help or discourage us at times! "I'm here to tell you that you are your entire world. Though we all look for companionship, I don't know why we are lead to believe that only a man can provide us with that and make our life "whole". Find what completes you and stick to it-in my case it was Prachi and my passion."
PC: backnbeyond
Finally, some lines from her that would state what the solo women travelers, even in their terms of societal journey can do to help themselves. "It is not going to be easy, but a few years down the line, when your endurance becomes your best friend, you'd know you've arrived."
Moksha Jetley's Bike 'N' Beyond organizes biking tours for foreign tourists in India.

7 Travel Mistakes That Add Fun To Your Travel

Travel Mistake #1Losing Your Luggage

PC: popsugar
Why It’s Fun: Okay, before you disagree; think about the point I am trying to make! Losing your luggage is perhaps the worst thing that can happen to you. I’ve been through it once and it was difficult to survive on just the carry-on. Also, I was not prepared for such a situation and didn’t pack enough stuff in my carry-on. But the best part about this was I could travel light, I learnt to live on the absolutely necessary items and I could shop on my trip (which was later reimbursed)!
Travel Caution: This mistake won’t be any fun if you have your documents or essential medicines in the luggage that you’ve lost. Also, you’d better have a travel insurance to afford this mistake!

Travel Mistake #2: Not Knowing The Local Language

Why It’s Fun: Of course it’s a travel mistake! It is always the best case scenario to know the local language of the country you are travelling to! But the best upside about not knowing the local language is that you get to connect to the locals on an emotional level. You realise that more often than not, language is a barrier between human beings! Let your eyes do the talking, my friend!
Travel Caution: Learn the basic words like sorry, help, thank you; they always come handy!

Travel Mistake #3: Not Taking A Camera

Why It’s Fun: Rather than being obsessed with taking the perfect picture with perfect lighting and at a perfect angle, you can actually spend those precious moments absorbing the beauty the place has to offer! In this way, you can make memories that will live through you!
Travel Caution: For travel journals, get your photo clicked by the photographers at the place that’ll provide you an instant copy!

Travel Mistake #4: Not Booking Your Hotels In Advance

Why It’s Fun: Rather than staying in a plush tried and tested hotel, it will be great fun to escape the city life and sleep under the stars on a sleeping bag! Or how about finding a cosy home-stay on the go and exploring hidden dimensions of a culture and living!
Travel Caution: Make sure you pick a safe abode!

Travel Mistake #5: Not Planning Your Trip

PC: glamourinthecountry
Why It’s Fun: Yes, chalking a travel plan is a great practice. But that also means that you might just include the places that are over-crowded and touristy! By not planning your trip in advance, you can follow your instincts and go places no one else has been to!
Travel Caution: Be ready for surprises!

Travel Mistake #6: Not Sticking To Your Itinerary

Why it’s fun: Going beyond the beaten path evokes the concealed passions and desires inside you that you’ve never known. Don’t stick to your itinerary, just pack up your bags and set yourself free!
Travel Caution: Wander, but don’t be lost!

Travel Mistake #7: Not Using Your Phone

Why It’s Fun: You can actually try to live without technology! Ask directions to locals instead of Google maps, talk to fellow travellers rather than having virtual conversations, listen to the sound of the nature rather than plugging into your playlist and make the most of your travel, in a real sense! Disconnect to technology so that you can reconnect to nature!
Travel caution: Keep your emergency contacts handy, or know by heart them; like ol’ days!
Have you been there? Done something that you should totally not do and been happy about it? Comment below and let us know the travel mistake you were proud of doing!

Life Lessons You Learn From Camping

"What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare”  - by William Henry Davis (in the poem ‘Leisure’).
So aptly said! With everyday responsibilities and too many opportunities, we have somehow forgotten to realize our own capability. We have somehow forgotten to live a life with minimal opportunities. It’s like a shell we have created around ourselves and we refuse to go out of it. But, if you want to know what life is all about; just go for camping!
For me, it turned out to be a ‘blessing in disguise’ in my life. It filled my later days with memories and some new relations to cherish on. Ask those who love camping, they are surely going to tell you some unforgettable lessons of life.
So, we at triphobo has prepared a list of lessons that can be learnt in camping. Let’s take a look into it:

1. Giving Up On Technology

When you are on a camping, just unplug yourself from the buzzing mobile phones. Trust me, you are definitely going to enjoy the world around you, rather than getting hooked up to a smartphone. It’s not very often you get the opportunity to move away from the technological world. So, why not give your brain a break from technology!

2. Living On The Basics

Wish to have some French fries with the evening coffee? Well! When you are on camping, such luxuries take a backseat in your life. You actually forget to make fuss about not having properly cooked food or not having cushioned beds to lie down. You start realizing that life can be lived even with basic necessities. Even the demand for fancy washroom doesn’t pop up in our mind.

3. Experiencing Nature

Somehow living in a concrete jungle for a long time has made us accustomed to the absence of greenery. We have somehow forgotten to wake up to the sounds of birds chirping or smell the fragrance of the freshly bloomed flowers. If you are truly urging to experience such eternal moment, go for camping! Live among the wood, inhale the fresh air and take the outdoor beauty.

4. Going Back To Age Old Days

Camping without bonfire is unimaginable. Moreover, with 9 to 5 jobs, it is almost impossible to enjoy bonfire in a city life. Then what you should do? Plan for a bonfire when you are camping! The experience will definitely take you to the old days when people used to cook food on bonfires.

5. Hard Work Pays Off

Camping is pretty exhausting. Choosing a site, setting up the tent, collecting woods for fire, looking for water and so many works are there to do. Without these works, a camp out can turn out to be a nightmare. On the flip side, it also makes you realize that you are capable of doing hard work which otherwise get submerged under the luxury of cosmopolitan life.
Abandon luxury and go the Hobo way, with a smart trip planner!

6. Shedding Of Inhibition

We human are always too shy to break off our comfort zone. But breaking away the routine life and trying something new expands your realm of experiences. Shrug off the inhibition, take part in camping activities and make mistakes. Remember, mistakes are always forgiven in camping.

7. Developing Trust

From childhood we are taught not to speak with strangers. But when you camp and face problem, a stranger who eagerly helps you turns out to be the ‘friend in need’. In fact, camping let you meet many new people coming from different background, sharing stories of themselves. Believe me, such friendship does stand the test of time and exist beyond the "Facebook” world. You will surely end up filling your travel diary with full of stories to take back at home.

8. Team Work Matters

If you think you are smart enough to go camping all alone, think again! Camping is not an easy game to play on. It requires lots of planning and effort to make it successful. And for that, a team work is required. Even if you are travelling alone, don’t hesitate to form teams with the recently met stranger-cum-friends. A teamwork improves your socializing attitude.

9. Sharing Is Caring

Gone are those days when you were taught uo;sharing is caring”. Nowadays, it is only about I, me and myself! But if you have such attitude for your camping trip, be ready to be left out of the group. In camping, sharing is an important aspect. In fact, sharing helps you to make friends. Try it! I have tried and have found some amazing friends for a lifetime.

10. Discovering Yourself

Camping not only let you enjoy a vacation, but it also gives you ample space and time to think about yourself. The slow spaced life during camping doesn’t make you feel bored. Rather it lets you discover yourself. It makes you realize who you really are. It might even let you see your true passion for life.

11. A Tent - Only Shelter To Stay In

Walking in the woods or climbing rocky path for hours makes you forget about the furnished bedroom you have back in your home. At that time, a tent with a bed roll looks enough to lie down and enjoy a sound sleep. Camping makes you accustomed to survive even in the worst condition.

12. Going Light

Remember, in camping you need to carry your own belonging. Thinking about taking trolley bag? You need a practicality check! Carrying fancy bags can actually ruin your trip. Hence, camping teaches you how much you should take with yourself.

13. Appreciating Little Things

Camping preaches you that even the basic essentials might not be available during your trip. Hence, settling with the small things is the best thing you can do for yourself.  After a hard day out, even a simply cooked food tastes delicious and seems enough to fill up your appetite.

14. Improving A Sense Of Direction

Camping doesn’t happen in a planned park or within the city. Out in the wilderness, you need to have a strong sense of direction while in camping. You need to remember the route to search for your basic necessity. In return, you end up improving your sense of direction.

15. Realising Some Problems Are Unavoidable

Facing problem? Runing away from the situation is what we all prefer to do. But what you are going to do on your camping? Many unsolved problems might come up. Like, you might face natural calamities like heavy rainfall or storm. Is there any escape from that situation? Of course not! It is part of life. Is there any solution to such problem? The answer is yes. We human are not incapable of finding a solution to any problem. Rather face the challenge and look for an alternative. So, next time when you utter the word impossible, remember it means uo;I am possible”.

16. Becoming Your Own Hero

When you are camping, don’t look for a hero. Instead be your own hero! Take decisions, face risk, look for a solution, be brave and do whatever it takes to protect yourself. Have confidence in yourself. That’s how you can turn yourself into a competent individual.

17. Realizing Life Is Indeed Beautiful

" Happiness does not depend on what you have or who you are; it solely relies on what you think.” Buddha
Yes! Camping does let you shrug off your stresses, uplift your mood and boost up your confidence to face challenges. It lets you realize that there are many more important things in life beyond materialistic demand.
So, what you are waiting for? Disconnect yourself from the man-made world and enjoy a memorable trip in the natural world the God’s best gift to the mankind.
